An Update From President Coleman

An Update From President Coleman

For Immediate Release
Oct. 19, 2023

The first hearing in our lawsuit against State Treasurer Young J. Boozer III took place today in Montgomery County Circuit Court.

It was clear to our legal team that Judge James Anderson understands the urgency of our situation, and that time is critical for BSC in getting to an agreement with the state on the loan terms. He has ordered the state to file its motion to dismiss the case by Monday, and has set a hearing on that motion for Wednesday, October 25.

Between now and then, we need to keep up our advocacy efforts to keep BSC’s importance and impact top of mind for Treasurer Boozer and Gov. Kay Ivey.

That means we all need to keep making those calls and sending those emails. The details are here, including contact information. Even if you’ve already reached out, please do it again.

And remember to connect with the Alabama legislators who worked so hard to create a pathway for the bridge loan we seek. Thank them for their heroic efforts and ask them to urge the Treasurer to work with BSC on a solution.

Students, right now is a great time to record those cell phone videos we messaged you about earlier today and send them to [email protected]. That will provide us with even more ways to get our message out and remind everyone who loves this College to stay in the fight with us.

We remain confident that BSC meets all of the qualifications for the loan, and that our financial restructuring plan makes clear how and when we plan to repay it.

And we remain committed to you – to our students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and friends. We will keep you updated as the situation unfolds.

Forward, Ever!

Daniel B. Coleman
16th President
